10 Father's Day Activities to Do with Dad

With Father’s Day right around the corner, you may be wondering about what sort of things you can do with dad to make the day special. After all, the man’s done so much for you, right? So the least you could do is plan an afternoon (or even weekend!) full of fun for you, dad, and the rest of the family!

If you’ve struggled to think of awesome Father’s Day activities in the past, fear no more! We’ve compiled a list of the top 10 best outdoor activities to do with your dad this Father’s Day. Let’s get started!

Top 10 Father’s Day Activities

Jet Ski Rental

Jet Ski Rental

Have you ever seen someone frown while riding a jet ski? No? Me neither! That’s because they’re incredibly fun to go out and use. Not only do jet skis get you into the water and off of the hot shore, they’re also incredibly easy to learn how to operate.

Plus, you can modify your jet skiing experience based on what you and your dad like to do. Want to tow the kids around in a tube? Yep, you can do that with a jet ski! Want to go fishing for a little while? Bring your pole along and access some pretty secluded spots! Any way you shake it, renting a jet ski this Father’s Day is an excellent idea.

Hike

Hike

One of the best things you can do with your dad this Father’s Day is taking him for a hike. Sharing our favorite hiking spots with our dads is incredibly rewarding because you get to reveal a place that is near and dear to your heart with one of the most important people in your life.

Plus, by physically exerting yourselves, you and dad will both benefit from the serotonin release you’ll get from hiking up a trail. This will leave both of you feeling good, and who doesn’t love that on a Father’s Day?

Fishing

Fishing

The most classic of all dad activities. Getting out on the water with a fishing pole, can of worms, and a beer or two has been the unofficial past time for dads everywhere. Fishing is a great Father’s Day activity because you can spend time with dad without the pressure of having to continuously hold a conversation.

Both you and him are working towards a common goal, namely, to catch fish! This takes a fair amount of concentration, so if you and dad enjoy spending time together, but not when each of you has to talk for hours on end, fishing is a great option!

Gun Range

Gun Range

Another great outdoor activity to do with your dad this Father’s Day is to take him to the gun range. Shooting rifles, pistols, and shotguns is a lot of fun because there are so many different ways to engage.

You could have a target shooting competition with rifles to see who can be the most accurate at a given range. You could do the same thing for pistols but set up multiple targets to challenge each other on how quickly and accurately you can switch from target to target. And one of the best things you can do at the gun range is go shoot on the trap line. Seeing orange clay pigeons fly through the air as you try to hit them out of the sky is exhilarating and will leave you and dad grinning from ear to ear for hours.

Golfing

Golfing

Getting out on the green for a round of 18 holes is a great way to spend the day with dad this Father’s Day. Golf is an incredibly relaxing sport because you get to be outside and take your time as you make your way through a course. Golf courses are incredibly well maintained, which makes for an aesthetically pleasing experience for both you and dad.

Another great thing about golf is that you can increase or decrease the level of competition easily to make it fun for you and the old man. And, no matter what happens, golf clubs often have great club house restaurants that you can take dad to at the end of the game for a cold drink and something to eat.

Exotic Car Rental

Exotic Car Rental

Have you and your dad dreamt about driving a Lamborghini? What about a Ferrari? One of the most fun and surprising things you can do for your dad this Father’s Day is to rent him an exotic car to drive!

One of the best places in the US to do this is in Las Vegas. Las Vegas is home to an exotic car racetrack where you and dad can drive practically any exotic car you can think of as fast as you’d like. SpeedVegas is located just outside of the city and is open 7 days a week. Plus, they offer gift certificates so you can get dad this awesome experience even if you can’t visit on Father’s Day.

Cookout

Cookout

Nothing quite beats the feeling of a Father’s Day cookout. The grill is sizzling, the sun is hot, and the drinks are cool! Cookouts are great because everyone can be outside and contribute to the experience. Dad on the grill flipping burgers, mom in the kitchen making drinks and dessert, and everyone else enjoying the beautiful day along with the sides that they brought for the meal.

And if the food wasn’t enough, one of the best parts about Father’s Day cookouts are the yard game competitions! From cornhole to ladder ball, there are so many games to play as food is getting prepared that folks will have to be peeled away to come eat when food is ready!

Wine / Beer Tasting

Wine/Beer Tasting

Another great activity to do with dad this Father’s Day is to take him on a wine or beer tasting tour. Many areas that are known for their wine and beer production have created fun tasting experiences where you can go from tasting room to tasting room to sample all that the area has to offer.

For instance, in San Diego, there are several companies that offer brewery tours. They pick you up at a given location and shuttle you around from brewery to brewery so you can experience as many breweries as you can! And in places like Palisade, CO, you can rent bikes and ride around from winery to winery to taste the locally produced wines.

Paddle Board

Paddle Board Rental

Getting on the water on Father’s Day is a great idea, especially since it falls right in the middle of June! Temperatures will be high, but that doesn’t mean that you have to sweat on the shore. Renting a paddle board with dad this Father’s Day is a great way to beat the heat and make some awesome memories.

One of the best parts about paddle boarding is that you can do it pretty much anywhere. On the ocean, in the bay, on a lake, or even on the river! The choices are nearly limitless when it comes to paddle boards.

Camping

Camping

Saving the best for last! Camping is one of the best things you can do with your dad this Father’s Day. There’s nothing quite like being in the great outdoors to make you feel restored. Plus, camping allows you to combine so many of the activities we’ve gone over today that it’s really the ultimate activity to do this Father’s Day.

Bring the grill, fire pit, paddle board, and yard games along with your tent and sleeping bag for a weekend that you won’t soon forget. We definitely recommend reserving a spot sooner rather than later though! Camping in June is a wildly popular thing to do these days. While you can try to snag a walk-up spot or even rough it in a primitive dispersed campsite, there’s nothing quite like packing up your gear and knowing you have a spot when you get there.
